Are you really anxious, or has something in your diet and constitution been overlooked? Some people are mis-diagnosed with anxiety or even panic disorder when it is a simple case of low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia). Amazingly, adrenalin pumped into the system as a result of plummeting blood sugar can mimic an anxiety attack - shaking, palpitations, fear and disorientation. To level out blood sugar levels REDUCE your caffeine intake (coffee, tea, cola), eat wholegrain bread and wholemeal pasta (available in supermarkets) and avoid sugar, white flour, white rice and junk foods. Eat foods that release sugar more slowly into the system - protein (meat, fish, eggs, legumes and nuts), good fats such as olive oil, avocados, nuts. Above all - Do NOT skip meals. Alot of these foods mentioned also contain the neurotransmitter Tryptophan, which will lighten mood and improve sleep when converted to Serotonin in the brain. So when you're not sleeping well you can feel very down and drained ... in fact depression can be a mis-diagnosis for simple sleep deprivation!
